Lao PDR celebrates its 50th anniversary of 50th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the nation. To mark the National Day, Ambassador Songkane Luangmuninthone made a National Day speech. Following is the excerpts of the Ambassador’s speech.
National Day, celebrated by all Lao people, is a powerful reminder of sacrifices made by our ancestors and heroes who fought for our nation’s freedom and independence.
It represents the strength, unity, and resilience of the Lao people throughout history.
Laos’s history, from King Fa Ngum’ unification of the Lane Xang Kingdom in the 14th century to the multi-ethic Lao people fight against foreign aggressors in the 20th century, is a testament to resilience and unity.
The nation had passed through various stages, including prosperity, sadness, and division of land, resulting of the invasion of other countries.
However, new heroes and leaders had emerged in difference period of time, as recorded in Lao history.
This year 50th anniversary celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable achievements Laos has made in economic development, trade, culture, and tourism, as well as its growing international partnerships that continue to drive the nation forward.
Economic Progress and Infrastruc-ture Advancements
Laos has made substantial progress in economic development the country is expected to lift out of the LDC status in 2026. In 2025, the nation is projected to 3.5% to 4% GDP growth, driven by key sector like electricity, tourism, logistics, and mining.
Infrastructure projects such as the Lao-China Railway and Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway, the expected Hanoi-Vientiane Highway are trans-forming Laos into a regional land-link hub, enhancing connectivity across ASEAN and beyond.
